HISU 340 Women and Gender in U.S. History to 1830 (3)
Prof. Devlin. This course focuses on the construction of gender roles in the formative years of American history. It will approach the subject from two different perspectives: the ways in which women have had a different past from men, and the ways in which women have participated in the more complex experiences of the entire society. The course will also focus on differences between women according to race, class, and ethnicity both in the private sphere of the home and family, and in the public sphere of work and politics.
