Prof. Clark. This course explores the evolution of American thought, examining ideas and thinkers in full historical and biographical context. Topics include European perceptions of the New World, Puritan theology, the American Enlightenment, the political thought of the Revolution and the Constitution, antebellum social reform, New England transcendentalism, and the impact of the Civil War.
