Prof. Miller, Prof. Shea. Prerequisite: 400-level sequence. Explores contemporary border theory from an historical perspective in the context of the Americas. Examines postmodern/postcolonial notions of racial and cultural difference and otherness as they play out in 19th-century literature. Looks at border culture along the US-Mexican border as well as in other Latin American contexts.
