PSMG130 Corrections Foundations - 3 CR
This course presents an overview of community-based corrections programs in the United States. It includes exposure to the social, legal, and economic impacts of locally provided services; sentencing alternatives and client processing; documenting/report writing; incarceration, probation, and parole. The course will examine prisoner/ex-prisoner rights and responsibilities, as well as typical offender profiles. Co-requisite: ENGL109. PSMG211 Security Management Foundations - - 3 CR. This course provides an overview of both public and private security management principles with a focus on management strategies for loss prevention. Balancing the business and legal orientations of security operations, emphasis is on physical, personnel, and information security. Specific security applications, including industrial, transportation, and computer are also explored. The body of knowledge contained within this course can also serve as a guide for students pursuing the Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation through the ASIS (American Society of Industrial Security). Co-requisite: ENGL110. PSMG250 Investigative Techniques and Procedures - 3 CR. This course provides an overview of the principles, methods, and techniques used for conducting a criminal or civil investigation. The legal framework for investigation and coverage of evidentiary rules and ethical issues are examined. Interviewing techniques are also explored with emphasis on the ethical and legal issues associated with conducting the interviews. Practical application techniques are reinforced using case studies and hands-on exercises. Prerequisite(s): PSMG102, LEGL211
