COMM 360 Documentary Film (3)

Prof. Ukadike. Prerequisite: COMM 115. The films to be studied in this course are selected from the spectrum of documentary film practice from the 1920s to the present. We will concentrate on specific topics as well as an historical overview. Considering the developing and shifting conception of documentary film practice, social issues, political and propagandistic values, and documenting "Other," as well as claims to veracity and objectivity will be treated within analytical framework. Different approaches to production-particularly within the burgeoning ethnographic and women's film practices-will also be examined.
