COMM 484 AIDS and the Media (3)

Prof. Fuqua. Prerequisite: COMM 326 or approval of instructor. This course analyzes a wide range of U.S. and non-U.S. cultural images and narratives about HIV/AIDS. Spanning the decades of the 1980s and 1990s, the course examines the ways the media representation shapes our ways of defining a pandemic. Topics may include historical and theoretical explorations of disease and the construction of otherness, the roles of experts and science, and issues of identity, sexuality, marginality.
