Prof. Flowers, Prof. Nelson. Prerequisites: MATH 121 and 122, or equivalent, PHYS 121 and 122 or 131 and 132, and approval of instructor. Earth as seen in the light of solid-earth geophysics: age and origin; seismology and structure of the interior; gravity, geodesy, and the geoid; heat budget; generation of the magnetic field and paleomagnetism; and geophysical constraints on plate tectonics.
